6:34am - Man, I've been at the McDonalds for an hour and a half and all I've done is look at videos on YouTube and new posts on Reddit. I really should get to work if I'm going to.
I guess that just goes to show the enormity of the stresses caused by this section of development. I'm doing something I've never heard of before or read about someone else doing, it's basically all me on this one. So it's pretty heavy.
Last time, I made the basic Brain and a CivilianBrain with methods that will reply with move orders when querried. Now I have to make the WorldController querry the Actor's brain on its' turn. Of course, I also have to make the Actors have brains first.
8:02am - Well things are going pretty well in general, except that I crashed Unity just now. Haven't done that before. The editor I mean.
*tests* And it's repeatable! Golly gosh gee whiz, I wonder where the bug could be? Unity normally tells me in the editor, but not when the editor itself is locking up.
I'm not sure what could be doing this. o.o;;
8:26am - While I was working on that I threw out a line in a GameDev discord I'm on for help with another problem and got a good answer. I can copy the CivilianBrain from the regular Brain by using an overridden clone method. Just writing that down so I remember it.
8:49am - Alright! The Civilian is moving properly and the player seems to be moving properly. I'd say I've got the ... Oops I got distracted and forgot I was writing in the blog.
9:03am - So I've got the brains working in a very basic way, and the turn system is turning in a very basic way, and so the player and NPCs take turns moving. Well there's only one NPC but I'm pretty sure it would scale and don't have to test it... o.o;;
Okay I'll test it.
*tests* Yes it scales up and the little mens dance dance dance.
Now! I want to do that thing I wrote down to remind myself, and modify the copying of brains.
9:39am - Alright! It took a little finagling but I managed to get it to work properly.
*logs work in HackNPlan* Nice, twenty minutes under budget. XD I'm really just guessing when I budget time for these things, but anyways I think I did well.
This is another big system down. I'm not even sure what I'm going to work on next, but I'll give it some thought while I'm running some errands on my way home. Rob convinced me to get some apples from the grocery store to eat for breakfasts, and I need to get a bottle of water for my CPAP machine too.
Toodleoodleoo and thanks for reading!
