Ludum Dare 44
Apr. 27th, 2019 01:02 pm1:02pm - Well it's time for Ludum Dare again and I'm in, as they say. A little late, since I forgot to check the theme last night and I slept a long time, but such is life.
The theme this time is "Your Life is Currency" and though I have some good ideas, I'm having trouble finding one that I think would work.
What I'd really like to make is some kind of base defense or tower defense game, but linking the HP and your Currency would be difficult to balance. Usually you have a set HP for your base, and enemies that make it to your base take one life. If you had the ability to power up your defenses by spending your life, you would want to spend as much as you could every time, because if you can keep all the enemies out anyways then it doesn't matter how much life you have.
Oh I just had an idea, let me sound it out. If you survive a level, then your life remaining is used to buy upgrades! ... Oh but then players that aren't doing well are punished for winning with less health, and players that are doing well will have an advantage that would make the game too easy for them.
I'm not sure what to do to come up with more ideas...
The more I think of it, in a TD game using life as currency just isn't a good idea. So should I abandon that game type?
I don't want to make another 2D platformer and I don't think I want to make a top-down adventure game either.
5:43pm - Time is flying and I still haven't started beyond brainstorming other ideas I don't really like, like making a Slot Machine or physics based Pinball simulation.
At any rate it's about time for my new daily walk, so I'm going to give it some thought while I'm outside.
9:51pm - I kept this entry open all evening in case I'd come up with an idea and start working, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Alas.
