4:10am - I talked to some friends about game ideas and together we formulated another idea for a game. Something like a sim, something actiony.

The idea is to make a different sort of dungeon sim. Not like the one I was working on before, but more like a game where you arrange a dungeon full of traps and monster encounters in order to defeat heroes that raid your dungeon.

Things would be built in a room by room basis, though, with each room being something like a Zelda dungeon room, with traps or monsters in it. The NPC heroes have to get to the end of the dungeon and defeat the boss.

The player would have a full view of the dungeon, and would be able to possess monsters or traps in order to defeat the heroes. Some heroes would be defeated by clever room order/placement, and others you'd have to do something yourself or they'd be smart or strong enough to avoid all your plots and planning and beat the boss.

That's the idea, anyways. I'd have to make a prototype to test it out.

It's a bit bigger of an idea than I was looking for, but it's an interesting one. My friends have been trying to get me to worry less about money and try bigger games more, but I'm not sure what to do.

I'm actually really stressed out over the business side of things. I want to make money, but if I just push out a product on Itch.io and someone pays me for it, that's a big deal. I have to report it to my Disability people and pay taxes on it, and I have other legal responsibilities too. If I get sued for IP infrigement or anything else, it's my butt on the line.

My roomie makes a point that I could always be frivolously sued for anything and have to pay legal fees for that even if I win, so worrying about it is pointless. But it's also a fact that if I make money from selling the game, I have that money to use in my legal defense.

So I don't know what to think.

On to the next idea, because there's always more. Another friend suggested I make a Care Bear Simulator, since they know I like Care Bears and Simulators, and then they said, well, knock off care bears anyways. So yeah I'm thinking about how that would work.

When I was a kid, the Care Bears and other cute eighties mascots tended to fight evil in a real way. Like, demons and evil wizards and shit like that, which would be manipulating people to be mean to one-another for their own pleasure, or other reasons.

I could probably use that as the window dressing and inspiration for some sort of arcade game, where you control pastel cuties trying to dispel all the baddies that are causing people to be mean to one another.

I'm not sure what exactly that would look like, though.

I suppose I could make something else in a similar vein where you play some cute critters that show up and help people with their social problems. Like an adventure game maybe. I dunno. I'm just spitballin'.

I think more than anything I need to talk to some people who actually make and release small games for money. See how they do it and how it goes for them.
