6:02pm - Well I messed around with the lesson earlier, but I'm needing to do something more so I'll get back to it now.
6:14pm - Of course my roomie picks now to get dinner. Well I'll multitask I guess.
7:00pm - It took me a few hours to complete, largely because I only have the one monitor, but I've done it. That first hour is down. :)
7:19pm - Now that I've got that first hour done, I'm not sure what to do next. The other lessons on the Unreal Learning Hub are mostly really specific or just not interesting. I'd like to make something to test myself, learn as I go, and demonstrate my abilities.
I went looking for unreal projects on YouTube to see if there were any suggestions, then tried looking on google in general, and that's when I hit on an idea.
Why don't I see what other people put in THEIR portfolios, so I get an idea of what folks want to see?
I don't intend to copy anyone else's work (without crediting them) but it might give me some direction.
7:31pm - I'll do more with that in a bit, some friends invited me to a game, and bought it for me, so I'mma play with them.
8:11pm - My system crashed while I was alt-tabbing, and the host is afk, so I can't get back in yet. While I wait I'll get back to what I was doing before.
9:10pm - I finished playing with that group for now, but I also spent some time looking at portfolios. It's interesting. Some have game jam games like mine, but others have more complex projects that they're showing off, and still others are just showing off their level design and art skills.
I'm actually thinking about making something technically impressive along the lines of what I'm planning to do for my 7DRL game. But instead of a Roguelike, I'd make it a first person action game like the one I'm trying to get in on.
I've opened Unreal Engine with a new project and I'm going to noodle about with it a bit to see what I can do.
9:55pm - It's interesting that there are so many good free resources Epic/Unreal offers, but no generic sword guy or sword guy arms for first person adventure games. I'll have to look elsewhere.
10:16pm - I really don't know where to look for a pair of arms and animations for them. Geez.
10:45pm - UE4 just crashed while sitting in the background, so that's great. LOL
I'll keep looking for resources in the mean time.
11:24pm - Well I found some arms that should do for what I need but they're not great. Anyways I've been working for a long time and I think I need a break for the night.
Thanks for reading!
