4:46pm - Well it's been a while, but I felt different this morning and I'm hoping it means I'll be able to work again. I felt inspired this morning to make something different. I even made a note on my desktop. "Simplest Living World"...
I was thinking about how you can kill plot NPCs in games like Skyrim or Oblivion and it breaks the story, and I was like, "What if it didn't?" But I was half asleep and the ideas I had weren't realistic. But it does remind me of my previous goals/ideas regarding simulated ecology. I've got a few ideas tumbling around in my head.
The difficult thing is I was also considering trying to do 7DRL this year, and that starts in a few days. So if I want to do that I should probably get started.
Ah, I know what I could do. I could combine the two, and try to make an alife inspired roguelike.
5:46pm - Hard to believe I've been here for an hour already. Mostly just reading articles and things on roguelike development.
6:05pm - I'm having second thoughts about the whole roguelike thing. After looking up a bunch of articles and things, it seems like most roguelike development is done with special roguelike libraries. Also I want to make a game I can easily publish online.
I could make a roguelike in Unity but I'm already doing that, and it's been taking me a lot longer than seven days. Of course, Unity has a 'roguelike' tutorial but that sort of roguelike isn't the kind I want to make.
Speaking of Unity's tutorials though they've added a couple more. One for a 2D Game Kit and one for a Tower Defense game. I happen to like Tower Defense games quite a bit, so I'm tempted to toy with that one.
There's another idea rolling around in my head, too. I could make a non-traditional roguelike. With Unity it's not difficult to make 2D Side-scrollers. I've made a couple for Ludum Dare before. I could probably make a radomly generated one. Or something else...
I've thought before about making a game inspired by Clash at Demonhead. That game was really weird and hard to understand, but I think its style of 'routes' with hidden secrets is quite good. I could even work in my alife ideas by having different NPC critters that interact. But that's quite a bit of scope creep for a 7DRL.
6:30pm - Hmm... I'm getting a little frustrated by how little I've done so far. I was expecting to jump into my work again after how good I felt this morning. Now night is falling outside and
6:58pm - Oops I spent a half hour on twitter. It's extra night now.
I'm not sure what I want to do anymore. But I do know that I want an order of french fries.
7:03pm - That's better. I had a hankering for salty potato strings. Now I'm not really sure what to do with myself. I feel like I had so much inspiration earlier but now I don't know what I want to do.
7:19pm - I want to do something but can't decide, so I went for my old fallback and opened Unity and World of Thardomhainn.
8:18pm - Once that was opened I went and watched two episodes of anime. Bleh. I'm not doing very good at this.
9:36pm - Around 8:30 I was going to try again when I noticed the guy across from me at the McDonalds seemed to be doing drugs. It creeped me out a lot so I told the McDonalds ladies and left. Now I'm back home but I'm not sure what to do. I kind of want to chill out and play video games, but I haven't really done any programming or design work.
Well, at least I'm feeling a bit better. Maybe it'll come with time.
