11:40am - So, in accordance with my agreement with my roommate, I've got three weeks to make a playable game with certain features. I should probably get started, right?

The requirements state that I need a playable character that can direct civs to resources and to a base, I need civs that can die, be given orders, and collect a resource, a resource that can be collected and which extends the lives of civs, and a base that can contain civs and the player character.

Everything else is up to me.

So let's see... I'm a bit iffy if I wanna do it in 3D or 2D, since we're hoping to build on it and I don't know which one I want. Maybe 3D?

Yeah I'll go for 3D for now.

I'll be working with Godot since I just spent a month or two learning it and I want to solidify my knowledge, plus other reasons.


So, the game will have a simple world, probably just a flat plane to start out with. That'll have a box on it to serve as the base, and resources that grow nearby, probably something like carrots that grow from a carrot patch.

The player will start out on the plane near the box, and the civs will start in the box. They'll just be capsules to start, I can add graphics and animations later.

I'm thinking that the player will approach the box or a civ when they're clicked on, and that'll bring up a command interface. That will allow the player to tell a civ to come out or to gather from the carrot patch.

There won't be much to do at first once you tell all the civs to harvest from the carrot patch; they'll just keep doing that when they're not eating, which they'll do automatically. Later there will be more things to do than harvest from the infinite carrot patch, so it'll get more complicated, but this is the beginning.

To move everything around I'll try to figure out Godot's navmesh implementation.

So, the Godot scenes I'll need will be the world, the base, the carrot patch, a carrot, the civ, the player, the command interface... I think that's it.

I'll start the project by making the world with its plane and the player, just to get player controls under control and figure out what I need for the navmesh.

12:25pm - I've got to do some things irl now, but I'll get back to this later.

11:37pm - I ended up taking a nap after doing my things irl, and I think it's too late to get back to this now. So, tomorrow's a big day, but I'll try to get back to this soon.
