2:29pm - I think it's about time I got down to business again. I've got a new game project and I need to plan out what I intend to make. I'm feeling very flighty right now though, so I'll also have to try and keep my cool and not go too fast.

First let's open up a folder for the game project...

Then make a text file for the basic plan...

Okay that's a start.

Now, what do I need to make in order to get this game off the ground?

I have a basic concept already, and I've selected an engine, but I have to build the game systems, test out some gadgets until I have good gameplay, then paint the story/setting over it.

What game systems do I need?

Well, since I'm starting with what I already did on my last project, I've already got a player character who can move around and get teleported around, both in scene and out scene. I've already got physics and collisions from the engine, and of course visual display, and sound as well when I get around to adding some.

The last thing I was working on was getting the camera to behave. So, there's that. Gotta get the Camera behaving.

Then I think I'll add an NPC system so I can talk to NPCs or interact with things via a dialogue. That'll make it easier to test things I think.

So that means NPC system and Dialogue system come after fixing the Camera.

The Dialogue system will allow me to trigger events, so I can have things happen.

I guess that means I need some sort of Event System, so I'll add that to the plan too.

Once I've got that going I suppose it'll be time to get the combat rolling.

The Combat will start simple. I know I want one character to use a sword, so I'll start with that. I'm not sure about the other character. There's two main characters in the current design, after talking it over with my friend Alex.

So the combat system will involve sword swings, knockback, and monsters to start.

I guess the monsters will be their own system, since they'll need AI.

So that should give me everything I need to move onto the testing stage, where I make gadgets and tools and see what's fun to play with.

We'll call that the Gadget System.

I suppose those are all the things I need to make to get the game working before I start mapping out levels and skinning everything to go with the story.

So moving back to the start I should break these down somewhat.

For the Camera System I need to finish the chase cam so that it collides with the invisible walls. Then I want to add a trigger to make the Camera shake on command, so I can use it to add juice later. I might save doing that for the polish stage though.

And I guess that's everything. That gives me some goals, and a place to start. Now I guess I should fork my previous project and get things set up for the new one.

I don't actually want to do that, though. ;.;

3:30pm - I just spent an hour planning out the future, for who knows how long. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed, even though I'm confident I can do everything I just laid out. I'd like to take a break. I'm not sure what I'm going to DO on that break, though.

I could play video games, I could go out to the store and get some things, I could watch a show I guess, I could even crawl back in bed and take a nap. I'm not sure what I want to actually do, though.

3:50pm - I guess I'll close this up for now, and start another work post when I do some more.
